“All those years living a life with someone I didn’t even know…”
A brand new trailer has been released for Knight of Cups, the highly anticipated new film from visionary filmmaker Terrence Malick.
Though the plot was once only known as being about “a man, temptations, celebrity, and excess”, a new official – and rather puzzling – synopsis has been released:
Once there was a young prince whose father, the king of the East, sent him down into Egypt to find a pearl. But when the prince arrived, the people poured him a cup. Drinking it, he forgot he was the son of a king, forgot about the pearl and fell into a deep sleep. Rick’s (Christian Bale) father used to read this story to him as a boy. The road to the East stretches out before him. Will he set forth?
Knight of Cups premiered at the 65th Berlin International Film Festival earlier this year and is finally making its way to UK screens on January 1st.
With a career spanning four decades, Malick is by far one of cinema’s most distinguished and visionary filmmakers. His films such as Badlands (1973), Days of Heaven (1978) and The Tree of Live (2011) are regarded as some of cinema’s most stunning features and his latest is perhaps his most star-studded including Cate Blancett, Natalie Portman and Antonio Banderas alongside Bale as well as Imogen Poots, Freida Pinto, Joe Manganiello and Wes Bentley.
Knight of Cups is released in UK cinemas 1st January 2016
